Medicare Supplement Insurance
Medicare is a government sponsored program that is administered by the US government and provides health insurance to individuals 65 and older. The original plan consisted of Part A and Part B. Medicare Supplement Insurance came later. Part A focuses on hospital insurance. It covers inpatient hospital stays, doctorýs fees, diagnostic tests, food and a semiprivate room. There is also coverage for inpatient care in a skilled nursing facility if specific requirements are met. Part B helps pay for products and services not covered by Part A. It includes x-rays, laboratory tests, and vaccinations as well as physician and nursing services.
This is also the portion of Medicare that covers assistive aids such as canes, wheelchairs, eyeglasses and prosthetic devices. Medicare supplement insurance was created to help fill the expense gaps that are not covered by the original components. In the state of Florida, there are several different levels of benefits that are offered. This helps Medicare recipients choose the coverage that is right for them. There are twelve standardized supplement programs. Although not all of them are available in every state, Floridians have access to them all. Federal and state regulations require that each plan cover specific expenses.
As a result of these regulations, all Medicare Supplement Insurance plans must have the same basic benefits. They include 365 days of full hospital coverage as well as hospital coinsurance coverage. Each plan must provide reimbursement for the 20% of the costs that the regular Medicare plan does not cover. It also includes the first three pints of blood needed each year. Depending on the supplement plan you select, there are also options for extra coverage. There is coinsurance for extended care at a skilled nursing facility, at home recovery care and even plans that cover emergency care if you are traveling outside the United States.
One of the best ways to choose the right Medicare Supplement Insurance is to learn about the coverage provided by Plans A and B. Although the basic requirements for each plan are the same, premiums vary significantly, so it is best to compare pricing to get the coverage you need at an affordable price. It is common for people to purchase too much insurance. Only buy the coverage you need. If you already have some coverage, but are not sure it is right for your current circumstances, contact your Florida state health insurance counseling program. They will review your coverage free of charge.
